Harbor Opening Weekend is
always held the 3rd weekend in May! Great fun! Entertainment! Parade
of Boats, Open House on more than 30 boats, Boat Decorating Contest,
Contests for Kids - Knot Tying, Sailboat Race, Club Open House &
Breakfast, Sidewalk Sales, Passport with Grand Prizes, Merchant's
Treasure Chest and Prize Drawings! plus much, much more!

4th of July
Celebration
On the Fourth, the population of
Seward swells from about 2,500 people to over 30,000. Main Street is
completely blocked off to traffic and the streets fill with people.

Mt. Marathon Race
The tradition of the Mt. Marathon
Race, according to folklore, began when two sourdoughs had an
argument about whether it was possible to climb and descend the
mountain in less than one hour. "Impossible" one said. To settle the
argument and the resulting wager it was decided to hold a race with
the loser to furnish drinks for the crowd. Click here for more information about the Marathon

August
Silver Salmon Derby
In late summer (mid
July) the bay fills with 10's of thousands of Silver Salmon and the
Seward Silver Salmon Derby
begins.
The annual Seward Silver Salmon Derby
draws anglers from around the world who try their luck at catching silvers
and winning prizes totaling over $150,000. Click here for more

December
Holiday Train Come to
Seward on the Annual Holiday Train! Leave Anchorage at 7 AM, enjoy Kenai
Peninsula winter scenery that you can't see from the highway, and then
take in Seward's Holiday Festival. Return to Anchorage at 9:30 PM. Click here

January
Third Weekend in January. The 1st
Seward Polar Bear Jump was held in 1986. Individuals dressed in costumes
and jumped into Resurrection Bay. Sponsors were acquired by the jumpers in
order to raise money for the Alaska Division of the American Cancer
Society. Click here for

Activities!
The Alaska SeaLife Center
offers an unrivaled, up-close and personal experience with Gulf of Alaska
marine wildlife. Witness a 2000+ pound Steller sea lion gliding past underwater
viewing windows, puffins diving in a carefully crafted naturalistic habitat,
and harbor seals hauled out on rocky beaches. Alaskan king crab, sea stars,
and the Giant Pacific octopus also await you, as well as a whole variety
of intertidal creatures and deep sea fishes.
Kenai Fjords National Park
offers backpacking, boating, cross country skiing, camping, cross
country skiing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, nature walks, wilderness area,
and wildlife viewing.
Caines Head State Recreation
Area and Resurrection Bay State Marine Parks Caines Head State
Recreation Area, the scenic site of an abandoned World War II fort, can be
reached by boat or spectacular hike from Seward. The massive headland
rises 650 feet above Resurrection Bay, against a back drop of rolling
alpine meadows and sharp peaks, giving way to a sweeping view of the North
Pacific Ocean.
